CHICKEN BOSS: On trial for murder over lover's death

The millionaire chicken shop owner accused of killing his gay lover in their luxury East Perth penthouse will stand trial for murder next year.

Gerardus Gerrit Heijne, 44, has pleaded not guilty to the wilful murder of his 51-year-old partner Frank Cianciosi who was found dead in the apartment they shared in Terrace Road on January 4 this year.

Police have not revealed how Mr Cianciosi died.

The Supreme Court today listed a 15-day trial starting on May 11.

Justice Peter Blaxell asked that prosecutors and the defence team meet before the next hearing to cut down the number of witnesses scheduled to give evidence in the trial.

The men, well known in Perth's business set, became millionaires after establishing the Lenard's chicken franchise in WA.

Mr Heijne, who appeared in court via video link to Hakea prison, was remanded in custody and will reappear for a status conference hearing on February 12 next year.
